Im headed to Toronto tomorrow morning to rehearse for the show on Aug 2nd. The first 3 hours is just Jon, Kevin and myself and we will start running some acoustic songs. I asked the guys to learn Only You, so we’ll see how that sounds. Let the games begin. It usually take awhile for a song to settle, ill have to be patient.
Ive got this little video camera that im going to bring in so ill upload something for you guys to see in the next few days. Also, because im really enjoying blogging about all this, ive centralized the blog at davidusher.com/blog. ill still post it on myspace etc. but at davidusher.com/blog is a place where i can easily drop in video and audio clips of the process for you to see in one centralized place. Anyways, check it out, log in, and tell me how its working for you. We are going to customize it as we go but i really like writing there (here) so far.

well action is next. The idea of moving to Montreal was one thing, there was the natural period of nervousness afterward, i think that lasted a day. And, now we are in the action part. There is a lot to do when you decide to move your life in a month. Notice in New York, movers, where to live here(although we will probably stay with lucie and tony for awhile, till they kick us out for my early morning wake ups)…ive got to pack!
Ive been running through all your ideas for cover songs, lots of good ideas. What about Only You by Yaz. Remember songs outside of what would seem appropriate are sometimes the best. Im really liking the covers so maybe 2 or 3 on the record. im going to start posting audio clips soon but that may have to wait till i get settled into Montreal in Sept.

So this has been the crazy week…
The plan was to spend the summers in Montreal. New york is too hot and Montreal comes to life as soon as the weather breaks, well after 7 days of creativity, friends and probably too much wine, Montreal had reminded me of all the things I missed about this place.
To make a long story short, Sabrina looked at me 2 nights ago and said ‘wanta move back” to which I responded a simple ‘yes’
20 minutes of talk later and we are Montrealers again.
Im really excited to be back in Canada (a bit afraid of winter, but fear is good right?!)
I had forgotten how much making out there is on the street corners here, that’s my kind of city. Leonard eat your heart out☺

Thanks for all the suggestions of songs you would like to hear. There are some I hadn’t thought of that would be good. Also keep the ideas for covers coming. There are so many great songs its hard to choose. Disarm would be something id love to do. The drugs don’t work is something I was thinking of.
Now that the process has started, one of the first things I have to do is figure out the legal part. Ive got to find out what songs I can rerecord as per my EMI deal. Once I know that ill be able to tell you what albums I have to choose from so we can narrow it down a bit.
I did write a new song yesterday that might fit in really well. Ill record what I have and post it, or maybe a video clip?? Now that ive started its quite fun. Something new to do at 5 in the morning.
Also, as some of you know im in Montreal for the summer. I really love it here. There is something special about this place.

So ive decided to do some acoustic sessions that I hope will result in an acoustic album. Im going to try as much as possible to let you all in on the process. To do that im going to blog, podcast and video podcast the process of making the record. ill stream everything to the davidusher.com forum, myspace.com/davidushermusic, youtube etc. so you can read, hear and watch it wherever you like.
The way I think a record will be is usually not the way the story turns out. In my mind the album will be acoustic (ish) versions some of my favorite songs, black heart, the music, maybe a version of f train the way we do it live with the extended ‘we will may still get by” in 3 part harmony, a new song or 2, a cover?? I would love to know what you would like to hear.
I see it as something interesting to do as a bridge before the next studio record. I may only release it online or at show or on itunes?? We can talk about all of these things.
Anyways, its an idea I thought I would put out there. Im going ahead and start the process. The first thing I need to think about is the songs, it always starts there…
