acoustic ideas for brilliant

by david usher on August 31, 2007 at 6:24 am

while we were in vancouver for the RW and Co show, we rehearsed in the hotel and worked on acoustic versions. this is a clip of an idea for an acoustic version of brilliant. just so ive said it, i have no idea if this is anything like what we will record, but i like the riff and the simplicity of it.

acoustic show last night

by david usher on August 29, 2007 at 8:45 am

its 5 am and im getting ready to go to the airport, headed to toronto. last nights acoustic show went really well. we had practiced in the hotel room before the show to refresh and added life of bees at the last minute. and low and behold i did not skip it when it came up in the set list and was probably my favorite moment of the night.

the car is waiting, time to move

Leaving New York

by david usher on August 27, 2007 at 6:31 am

so im at the airport and getting ready to board the plane. im listening to Azure Ray, Sleep and its really perfect. the time here has been amazing, i hope i can always stay in the moment and embrace new things as much as im loving this. im holding my breathe waiting to be in montreal again. i feel like there is a whole world of creative ideas coming. it really is like “standing at the top looking down”, here comes the free fall.

im meeting jon and kev in vancouver for the acoustic show, then toronto to rehearse for the tour, beachfest and then home (montreal)!

damn, now i have a lot to think about

by david usher on August 25, 2007 at 7:22 am

so thank you for all the suggestions, many were songs i have been wanting to do for awhile and some i hadnt thought of at all. ive sent a list for the guys to try and refresh on and ill add songs as we get closer to rehearsals. if you have more ideas keep them coming, under the same post. the show this tuesday in vancouver is the first acoustic set i think ive ever really done, maybe the second?? im excited because i think it could be a thread, the beginning of something. in my mind i see an online acoustic record, followed by a more “rockin” one right after. we’ll see how it actually happens. by the way alot of the more full on record is already written and demoed. dont ask me how it happened, kev and jon came down for a week and we got so much done. its going to be a busy winter in montreal!

also, i was thinking of letting some people come into soundcheck during the october tour, just let you watch the process, would that be of interest?? if so ill run some kind of contest here. (remember, leave your comments here, at www.davidusher.com/blog )

Song ideas for the Oct. tour?

by david usher on August 21, 2007 at 6:02 pm

So the time has come to start thinking about the coming fall tour. Packing is done (almost) and its back to music! There are so many songs to choose from, and i would love to get some ideas of what you would like to hear.

There are three catagories

ugly is beautiful - isnt it

by david usher on August 17, 2007 at 1:48 pm

A high res version of the new video for ugly is beautiful is posted at www.davidusher.com/blog , in the sidebar. Its the second of 3 parts. The final section is being shot in toronto in sept., the incredible Margaret directing again. When we have all 3 sections we are going to cut them into a short film. I think its going to be a very interesting process watching how cutting the footage from all 3 together, with voice over and new music will change the visuals we got. Development of arc and story out of something that is, in raw form, pretty abstract. But thats the fun of process. For the next part of the story our protagonist travels underwater, thats going to make for a very wet video shoot day. Margaret was asking me yesterday how long i thought i could hold my breathe for. “well im not sure, i havent tried lately…” Its time to get in the tub.

i really havent forgotten to write…

back in NYC to live and pack and wander…

by david usher on August 12, 2007 at 3:55 am

just got back to new york from montreal, its strange being here and knowing that ill be leaving this place that i love so soon.

i have 2 weeks here and then its off to vancouver, toronto and then finally montreal.

i think the way im going to deal with this is wander around a bit with a video camera and show you all the neighbourhood, the east village is really an amazing place, its less gritty than it 10 years ago but still really artistic and interesting and rich with all kinds of people, from all kinds of places, ill start shooting and posting in the next few days. just need to get my feet back under me first.

when it hurts

by david usher on August 9, 2007 at 12:16 pm

this is the first recording of part of the song when it hurts, its in total demo form and raw raw raw, everything about it will probably change but, if im going to start to show you to process of songs, then as hard as it is for me to let things out unfinished…

[display_podcast]

anyways, recorded direct to my laptop mic on garageband, the way all songs start, with vocal and guitar
