just got back to new york from montreal, its strange being here and knowing that ill be leaving this place that i love so soon.
i have 2 weeks here and then its off to vancouver, toronto and then finally montreal.
i think the way im going to deal with this is wander around a bit with a video camera and show you all the neighbourhood, the east village is really an amazing place, its less gritty than it 10 years ago but still really artistic and interesting and rich with all kinds of people, from all kinds of places, ill start shooting and posting in the next few days. just need to get my feet back under me first.

What a bittersweet time. It will be wonderful to see what you’ve seen.
I’ll be moving to New York in a couple months. And while its probably my favorite city in the world, leaving what I’ve called home so long has proven harder than I thought it would be. But your post reminded me of why I love it there so much, of all the times I’ve sat in Tompkins or Central Park thinking “I never want to leave. Just mail me my stuff from California.” It made me excited, a little less nervous, and also sad. I don’t know why. Maybe its just emotional, not sad. I’ll figure it out later. In the meantime, looking forward to your posts. Your new york goodbye is my hello.
Looking forward to your posts… it’ll give me my much needed new york fix! I was completely won over to the East Villiage when I visited there. Now, I dream of living there one day.
Hope you enjoy your time there and that the packing isnt too overwhelming!

Hi David! Enjoy your rest of the summer in the Big Apple. Hard to leave but you know you will always be a simple plane-ride away from your beloved streets of New York.
I bought my ticket for the Metropolis show and since it’s going to be your 1st show back in Montreal, have you given thought to playing “Going Home” from IGHC? I know it isn’t part of your usual setlist but it seems like a perfect song for such an occasion. It’s going to be quite the welcome home show I think! See you there. xxx
Oh, and I went to NYC just once, back in April (dream come true!). I sort of avoided the East Village on purpose because the last thing I wanted was to run into you there and have you think I’m a stalker or something.
I wanted to very badly, even wanted to ride the F-Train and go down on Avenue A, sit in a coffe shop, do all that. My travelling companion didn’t think those were very safe ideas for 2 girls so we didn’t do those things - nice to know 1st hand from you that the places have changed there over the years! We did go down to a record store on Jones Street which I gather was in The Village - Record Runner, at 5 Jones Street. I had wanted to go there since I was a kid! World-famous record store. I’ve been ordering stuff from them for ages. Going there in person was a huge thrill. I wondered when I was there if you ever heard of it and if you shop there too? There’s no other place like it. Is it near your neighborhood? I spent more $$ there than I care to admit, haha!
Can’t wait to see the videos! You’ll not only be providing us, your fans with some personal “behind the scenes” clips, but also how cool it will be 20 years from now to show Coco that exact same footage!
The private footage of the East Village will be something to look forward to. I can’t believe I’ve now ceased updating my own blog and now spend more time on this one. It’s fascinating and intrguing for us to be somehow involved in the creation of the acoustic sessions, and to be given some insights into the hows and whys of the relocation to Montreal. Must dash — trying to figure out how to crash the private Vancouver gig later this month, and it will require expert planning and passionate pleas to sales staff on my part.

Hi David
New to blogging so bare with me if this doesn’t work. Thanks for letting us know about your blog. So happy to hear that you are coming back to Canada. Montreal is so great. Lived there many years ago, still have a sister there. Any plans on performing in Hamilton in the fall? Maybe at the Westdale Concert Theatre, great intimate venue! Looking forward to your accoustic CD. Breaks over, gotta run.
Love Joce
