so thank you for all the suggestions, many were songs i have been wanting to do for awhile and some i hadnt thought of at all. ive sent a list for the guys to try and refresh on and ill add songs as we get closer to rehearsals. if you have more ideas keep them coming, under the same post. the show this tuesday in vancouver is the first acoustic set i think ive ever really done, maybe the second?? im excited because i think it could be a thread, the beginning of something. in my mind i see an online acoustic record, followed by a more “rockin” one right after. we’ll see how it actually happens. by the way alot of the more full on record is already written and demoed. dont ask me how it happened, kev and jon came down for a week and we got so much done. its going to be a busy winter in montreal!

also, i was thinking of letting some people come into soundcheck during the october tour, just let you watch the process, would that be of interest?? if so ill run some kind of contest here. (remember, leave your comments here, at www.davidusher.com/blog )

(No editing option sorry for spamming) That is AMAZING that through all this blogging, facebooking, twittering etc, you have managed to get so much groundwork done for an album! I am looking forward to hearing more about it and the other projects as time passes. This has been an intriguing summer here in your ’space’, thanks for the continuing peek! :)

The contest is a great idea. Speaking of Oct shows, what’s going on with the show in Banff? There’s no ticket info anywhere (your site, ticketmaster, Wild Bill’s site, etc. etc.).

From soulDazed — August 25, 2007 @ 9:11 am

who wouldn’t be up for the contest? I love the idea!

From viciouswithoutlove — August 25, 2007 @ 11:19 am

“vancouver is the first acoustic set i think ive ever really done”

wow! so cool i get to witness it then! so excited to see what songs you will be playing.
Will be there sporting my home made david usher t-shirt proudly.

& please please do the contest
seeing you during soundcheck would be such a great experience.

From Cheryl — August 25, 2007 @ 11:21 am

WOoOOoo!!! Bring on the contest! :)

From shannon — August 25, 2007 @ 12:06 pm

The contest sounds like fun!

And the acoustic set sounds amazing! Are you considering posting some footage from that? It would be great to see!

I cant believe how much you are doing online and that you already have much of the record done (though I bet you will end up writing lots more songs before then and have to pick and choose!). You must work a 20 hour day at least!!! A side effect of doing what you love i guess! :)

From Brenda — August 25, 2007 @ 12:55 pm

Of interest indeed!

From tye — August 25, 2007 @ 1:27 pm

Wow, that sound like a great idea!

From Sabrina aka Angelinfire — August 25, 2007 @ 1:34 pm

wow i could say no to my trip to china to be on your soundcheck,,damn!!!!

From Venera — August 25, 2007 @ 1:48 pm

Hehe, is that a rhetorical question? Of course, that would be of interest!!! I’ve never won a contest in my life but this would be the best time to break the curse!

From nkyriazis — August 25, 2007 @ 2:00 pm

From telo — August 25, 2007 @ 2:11 pm

From LadyMisty — August 25, 2007 @ 3:35 pm

Uhm David? can I win the contest too? Pwetty pwetty pwease? Haha. Kevin knows how much I’d like to watch the soundcheck process - but I didn’t wanna risk bugging you at Casino NS.

My friend Ashley LeBlanc was lucky enough to randomly be at the right place at the right time and catch some of your soundcheck in New Glasgow.

I agree this rocks, this whole you being a cool and open musician with your fans and not being a dick who let success go to his head. You’re the best. xxx

From Elillusio — August 25, 2007 @ 3:54 pm

A contest to be there during soundcheck is a fab idea - I’m sure you’ll get a huge response.

Love the idea of an acoustic album too. Much as I love the all out rock of songs like Black Black Heart, your voice really suits the simple honesty of an acoustic set.

Keep doing your thing - you do it so well!

From mel — August 25, 2007 @ 4:14 pm

mmm soundcheck

From Maxime — August 25, 2007 @ 5:14 pm

The contest is a great idea. So yeah, it would be of great interest!

And man I wish I could be in Vancouver for that show..

From Maxime — August 25, 2007 @ 5:15 pm

Oh and just wondering, do you consider doing a live dvd anytime soon?

From danacarter28 — August 25, 2007 @ 5:41 pm

Is this a trick question? Either way count me in! Definatly an amazing idea. Cant wait to hear the new songs either. Ever thought about “deep inside of you” by 3rd eye blind i think… be a great cover. Or Rick Springfields “Jesses Girl” that one makes me laugh.. Straight outa the 80’s! Anyways, cheers David.

From Stefa — August 25, 2007 @ 6:37 pm

David

I think that allowing certain fans access to Soundcheck before the show would be fantastic. I am coming to the Toronto show, Oct 18

From Laura — August 25, 2007 @ 11:37 pm

i love the idea of winning a chance to watch the soundchecks :) it will be an amazing experience for those lucky enough to win! (and hopefully those that do win, can bring a friend?)

From Franceline — August 26, 2007 @ 1:46 am

If interested?? That is not a question. Would really love it! Looking foward for the contest. ;)

From tacko_2 — August 26, 2007 @ 9:22 am

I think it’s a great idea! I think theirs a lot of people that would be VERY happy being in a contest with that kind of gift for winning… i’ve been enjoying reading your blog its very awsome!

From AlannaHagon — August 26, 2007 @ 1:49 pm

I think that would definetly be of interest :D

From robyn — August 26, 2007 @ 2:56 pm

A contest of some sort would definitely be a good idea…

Hope that the Markham show in November will be part of this “preview” idea. It’d be great to have that chance to do something this exciting!

From Kristine — August 26, 2007 @ 6:41 pm

Are you kidding??? Oh David, you’re so funny…OF COURSE that would be of interest!!! :)

Great to hear that you’re actually working on two, such different, albums. Can’t wait to hear what you’ve come up with!

From Amanda — August 26, 2007 @ 9:05 pm

david usher fans check david usher blogs, there for all comments on david usher blogs say a chance to see david usher sound check contest is a good idea. It would be funny to see someone say that it is a bad idea, but my personal logical opinion is that nobody who reads david usher blogs would think that it is a bad idea. it is a good idea.
ps. please don’t forget to include fredericton in your fall tour.

From coldnakedmorning — August 26, 2007 @ 9:07 pm

soundcheck??? umm…yes, please!! i’ve always wanted to see a soundcheck!! anyway you can rig that contest for me? ;o)

From Graeme — August 27, 2007 @ 12:17 pm

I hope there’s a skill testing question involved in winning the soundcheck contest. I’m pretty much a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to your music, and it would be awfully sweet of you to let us be there for that.

From Leha — August 27, 2007 @ 2:30 pm

I don’t have any music dackground and I’m a kind of new D.U fun, but I love your music!!!
Can I win???

From jocelyne — August 30, 2007 @ 1:36 pm

Do you even have to ask? Of course any fan of yours would more than welcome the opportunity to sit in on a soundcheck. I’ll keep my fingers crossed because that would be an AMAZING event to be at.

Joce : )

From Adriane — September 2, 2007 @ 1:06 am

I am a huge fan and your music means a lot to me. I am absolutely thrilled that you are coming to Calgary in October! I can’t WAIT! A soundcheck would be great!

From DMT4CAN — September 5, 2007 @ 1:27 pm

AHAHA!!!
David, I don’t envy you, picking the winners of the contest. But like everyone else here, I hope I get to be one of them.

Yep, watching the process would be very cool. I always love to see how the finished product got there, right from what inspired the idea, through how it evolves into the end result. Sometimes it ends up the way it was envisioned from the beginning and other times it doesn’t.

From lina — September 11, 2007 @ 2:21 pm

I think that is a great idea. I find it amazing that u give such acess to your fans I truly
admire u. You are such a talented artist and wonderful human being. I can`t wait for your show at the phoenix. Stay sweet!
