lots about it is going to change. some of the words have already left us since this i recorded this yesterday. its interesting for me the journey a song takes. showing thing to you this early on is very odd and im having to force myself to post it, without polishing it. anyways, im sure ill get use to it, enough preamble…

From Jessica_N — September 17, 2007 @ 8:48 am

willow…I couldn’t get it working. It’s stuck at buffering…

From DiamondWillow — September 17, 2007 @ 8:52 am

Uh - 0h . I played it in the popup window (second option) What choice are you using to listen to it?

From Jessica_N — September 17, 2007 @ 8:55 am

I tried both…neither of them work! OH..but I wanna hear it!

From fttoque — September 17, 2007 @ 8:56 am

From shannon — September 17, 2007 @ 8:58 am

It worked for me and I love it! I think you should keep the laugh in the middle :)

From Jessica_N — September 17, 2007 @ 9:01 am

Why are you all up and commenting on this page at this hour? Okay, I’m guilty too. Nevertheless, it must be the way the settings are at work…I can’t get the podcast player to work either…so I’ll blame it on them! I’ll try this at home laterz..

From fttoque — September 17, 2007 @ 9:20 am

I also think you should keep the laugh!

From celebi251ca1 — September 17, 2007 @ 9:21 am

feels like the first time i listened to f train with that pause 5 seconds into the song to look for a lava lamp loll

From Claudia — September 17, 2007 @ 9:21 am

” I think you should keep the laugh in the middle :) ” - Agree!!

love it!! xo

From DiamondWillow — September 17, 2007 @ 9:27 am

I love the “humaness’ of the clip (for lack of a better word) - yes, the laugh is heartwarming, the whole ‘feel’ of it is ‘real’. Like I said, it could just be the rawness of it that makes me love it. Reminds me of the hours I would listen to my brothers practice… (one of the joys of being a sibling of musicians is that I got to listen to raw/practice… no-one else, not even parents got that opportunity!)

Oh and Jessica :) I am up at ungodly hours, farm, work etc…. (come kidding season I will be up close to 24hrs a day…) I pop in here regularly to see what is happening. (I read somewhere that it is an Aries trait to hate to miss out on any thing!) I also work from home so I be here and work at the same time :) Love it…

From Cheryl — September 17, 2007 @ 10:20 am

Feels so familiar and warm to me. The laughter is infectious - I’m smiling at my desk listening to you almost laugh in parts. I love it, but can’t wait to see how it evolves.

From Dustin.Sparks — September 17, 2007 @ 10:53 am

sorry for the double post but I wanted to add that I thought it was so cool that you just did it in one take instead of starting over and over til it was perfect. Thanks for staying so honest.

This song is serving as my soundtrack as I work from home today and is completely making my morning! However, my work productivity may not be so good because I am so distracted by this beautiful tune!

From danacarter28 — September 17, 2007 @ 11:43 am

I agree you should keep the laugh in the middle, and the “somthing like that” at the end! It will be beautiful. Cheers

From Graeme — September 17, 2007 @ 2:07 pm

Very moved by the bit about waves crashing overhead, and angels singing and laughing. Sublime.

From robyn — September 17, 2007 @ 3:07 pm

graeme - sublime is definitely a fitting word. i’m just fawning over this song to everyone - “hey, come here and have a listen!”. it’s fantastic…
and yes, i do agree with everyone posting above. the laugh in the middle is really heartwarming.
i’m not as eloquent as graeme, but just let me say that if i could invent a word for how special this song is, I would. i’m just not quite that creative.
thanks for sharing!

From psycho-psilocybin — September 17, 2007 @ 3:32 pm

awww the raw version is so incredable! it is such a fresh song, it captivates and entertains and the laugh in the middle was completley adorable I totally think you should keep it! can’t wait to hear the progress of this song its already found a special place in my heart there is just something about it thanks sooo much for sharing!!

Beautiful!! I love it! David, you always amaze us with your talent! If this is only a demo, I can imagine how great the final product will sound. Right on! :)

From Graeme — September 17, 2007 @ 4:03 pm

You’re too kind, Robyn, but believe me, you are just as eloquent. :-)

From Venera — September 17, 2007 @ 5:20 pm

Hehehe, I agree with everyone. Hearing this made me smile. Well, actually I was grinning like an idiot for most of the song and then I just started laughing at the “Oooh” part.

It’s so good to hear your voice. The song is pretty.

From AlannaHagon — September 17, 2007 @ 5:35 pm

Breathtaking. Thank you for sharing! Can’t wait for the final version! Though I do quite love acoustic as well. ^.^

From nat — September 18, 2007 @ 1:34 am

I love your new song and I’m totally addicted to your new website and cds. It’s so awesome to let us to get to know you. I can’t wait to see you perform again in Winnipeg. Could you please hang around after the show for pictures, autographs and meeting us fans? My camera doesn’t take good pictures when there is that smokey stuff around, lol! Or better yet, perform somewhere randomly and let us devoted fans know? That would be cool.

And about your french lessons, don’t give up. Hey, I felt the same way when I learned english so late in my life and then I learned spanish. French is my first language. If you need to practice your french or want to live in the French culture while you come to Winnipeg, come to the french quarter.

Can’t wait to see ya perform.

Nat

From meagan — September 18, 2007 @ 6:15 pm

Definatley love it, getting goosebumps from it.
Fantastic.

From Alice — September 18, 2007 @ 6:35 pm

Once this song makes it onto my itunes it is going to be one of the songs with a ridiculously high play count because I can’t fall asleep without listening to it and calming down. *cough*St.Lawrence River*cough*

From brebichex — September 18, 2007 @ 7:34 pm

Oh gosh!
Im happy to know that I am the first to think about it, but, i wouLd like to say:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN!
I hope you’ve a great day, and profit each day of your next year!
So that’s it !

From sweetrhapsody — September 19, 2007 @ 12:03 am

Amazing!! The lyrics are touching, and so was your laugh! You truly have a gift! Can’t wait to hear the final product!

From Michael — September 19, 2007 @ 10:38 am

Like the others here, enjoyed it and the laugh humanizes it like imperfections do much of the time (this is the excuse I use for my bodily imperfections which I have many!). Can’t wait to hear the final version. Nice.

From DiamondWillow — September 19, 2007 @ 11:00 am

I agree- the laugh is charming, and gives the song a very natural intimate quality that warms the heart but I think if it is kept in the song it would lose the endearing quality it has now. I don’t know about you all but if I know I *Have* to laugh at a certain point it would probably sound flat and ‘canned’. Maybe David is an amazing actor and can pull it off… I guess we will just have to wait and see!!

From Michael — September 19, 2007 @ 11:46 am

diamondwillow, yes, he is an amazing actor, have you seen him in concert? As when he leans over on the stage almost falling with a little grin on his face during a moment at the “edge of it all”! Great mix of humour and seriousness all wrapped up in one.

From DiamondWillow — September 19, 2007 @ 12:49 pm

michael, I have seen him in concert a few times, and yes, he is a great showman - definitely fun to watch. I guess we will just have to wait and see if what originally was a natural, spontanious heartwarming laugh/chuckle can be repeated over an over again and still produce the same emotion to the listener won’t we? (that is even if he even chooses to do that!) Cheers! D

From shannon — September 19, 2007 @ 5:23 pm

Personally, I was joking about keeping the laugh! It was great because it was genuine and authentic. I doubt that it could, or should, be duplicated!

From Jacqueline A — September 19, 2007 @ 10:09 pm

It’s good to hear the beginnings of your latest work. I think that it makes me feel connected with what you’re doing right now and then the anticipation begins. I have always loved your music and enjoy keeping up with what’s new in the world of
David!

From glenn — September 20, 2007 @ 12:41 am

I think this is really cool! :) I love the song. it’s neat to see the process of creating a song.

From WebAndiK — September 20, 2007 @ 8:58 am

Wonderful song! I can only imagine who was in the room to instigate the laugh. Now ofcourse you’ve set a precedent and will have to think of a way to reproduce it on a regular basis…I am sure Kevin can think of some ways to help. Cheers!

From Lillian Joyce — September 21, 2007 @ 12:48 am

any chance of you performing this @ least once during the fall tour? that is if the song’s completed by then, and if you’re okay with it. i really hope you do!

From aspen00 — September 23, 2007 @ 3:43 am

I have just listened to it. In my opinion it is still a work in progress (well duh! I mean he just started to compose the song….) anyways… The melody is great already it just needs to be smoothened out further. So far the song is really great!

From Nath. — September 27, 2007 @ 7:39 am

That song is really good, good as everything that you do.
